How to Evaluate RAW data output cameras
Recently, the usage of RAW sensor type Automotive use cameras have increased. This is due to multiple factors, most notably the removal of ISP’s from the camera in order to reduce size and heat. This means that the necessity for RAW data evaluation has become much more common in the Industry. However, evaluating RAW data output is easier said than done. Obviously, this requires conversion of RAW data to Color, as well as checking the accuracy of the output data. Displaying RAW data as an 8-bit grayscale using the Y component is simple, but performing real-time RAW data imaging is an entirely different story. Therefore, it is necessary to check and evaluate the validity of the data before the RAW data enters the ISP. NetVision would like to introduce a method to split the output of a single RAW camera in an analog manner, enabling two real-time evaluations simultaneously, making the evaluation process much more easy and convenient.

In the above configuration, the MIPI signal from the Raspberry Pi Camera is branched at the Uni-SP board via the Uni-DuP board, with one branch going to the SVM-06B-BYR2 and the other branch going, through another Uni-DuP board, to the SVM-06.
Since the video format from the Raspberry Pi Camera is RAW, it is normally displayed in black and white on the SVM-06, but on the SVM-06B-BYR2, it is developed and output as YUV, allowing confirmation of the processed color video. This setup makes it possible to compare two video streams simultaneously in real-time.
Additionally, since the Uni-SP board purely branches the MIPI signal, simultaneous operation of various algorithms is possible. Combined with our optional boards, this enables a variety of applications.
■ Features
- Real-time MIPI branching using the MIPI-Uni (Universal) board
- Real-time RAW imaging using RAW processing FPGA-IP
- Simultaneous verification of different algorithms
- Real-time monitor display
- Input to image processing devices (ECU, etc.) while checking the original image
■ RAW Imaging Board: SVM-06B-BYR2 – Equipped with Real-Time RAW Imaging Function
A 5x5 filter demosaic processing has been implemented on the SVM-06B. Compared to our NVCap software processing, the accuracy has improved, allowing real-time viewing of developed images from a RAW camera. Additionally, functions such as black level correction, RGB gain, color matrix, and gamma correction are processed through the pipeline, and by adjusting registers for each function, it can serve as a simple ISP.

Additionally, a block is provided to store the accumulated RGB values within the specified angle of view, which can be used for feedback processing such as AE and AWB using the accumulated values.

■ MIPI-Uni-Series Board: MIPI Universal Split Board
The MIPI-Uni board is a board for directly splitting MIPI signals.

Split Board: MIPI-Uni-SP (NV072-A)
This board is used to analogically split MIPI signals into two lines.
Relay Board: MIPI-Uni-DuP (NV054-F)
The NV054-F is a board for inputting and outputting MIPI CSI-2 video signals via an FFC connector. By connecting this board with an SV board, it can be used for capturing video as well as branching MIPI CSI-2 signals. Since it is equipped with a general-purpose 22-pin FFC connector, it can also be connected to evaluation kits such as NVIDIA Jetson or Raspberry Pi cameras. In the current configuration, it is used as a relay board connecting the boards.
